Recently I took on a foster.
A horse from a rescue.
A thoroughbred mare.
There’s something so sweet about Lady beneath her angst.
One of those many horses that has a huge heart.
She has given of herself and her body, but it seems that she hasn’t received a lot in return.
All too common of a story.
Sure, it could be worse.
But, here she is.
Standing in front of me wondering what this human wants from her.
James and Lady are pasture mates now. I ask James what he thinks of her, and for his advice:
“Whoa- she’s a handful, isn't she? I am much more reasonable. Give her time. She’ll come around. We all have our stories, our history- the stuff that sometimes gets in the way of who we really are. She’s a lot. But, nothing you can’t handle. It’ll get better. I promise. Just sit with her and wait. It gives her an opening. Like a doorway to you. She has never been offered that by anyone. She’s seeking peace. Let her find that with you. You’ve offered peace to her and she has felt it. She knows it is there with you. Now let her walk into your peace by choice.” --James
